a5c7b9f00b Jake Green is a hotshot gambler, long on audacity and short on common sense. He's rarely allowed to play in any casino because he is a winner. Jake has taken in so much money over the years, he is the only client of his accountant and older brother Billy. One night, Jake, Billy and their other brother Joe are invited to sit in on a private game, where Jake is expected to lose to Dorothy Macha, a crime boss and local casino owner who can't play for squat, but always wins because people are too scared to beat him. Jake isn't afraid of Macha, and not only beats Dorothy in a quick game of chance, but takes every possible opportunity to insult the man. Jake and his brothers leave the game, and Macha puts out the order for a hit on Jake, who ends up working for and being protected by a pair of brothers, Avi and Zack, who are out to take Macha down.
After seven years in solitary, Jake Green is released from prison. In the next two years, he amasses a lot of money by gambling. He's ready to seek his revenge on Dorothy (Mr. D) Macha, a violence-prone casino owner who sent Jake to prison. He humiliates Macha in front of Macha's lieutenants, leaves, and keels over. Doctors tell him he has a rare disease and will die in three days; Macha also puts a hit out on him. Loan sharks, Zack and Avi, demand Jake's cash and complete fealty in return for protection. Jake complies, and through narration and flashbacks, we watch him through at least three days of schemes, danger, and redemption. Who is his greatest enemy?
If you value style over content, see this movie. If you value psycho-babble over coherent story-telling, see this movie. If you think Madonna is the sh*t, see this movie.<br/><br/>Otherwise, stay away.<br/><br/>Ritchie, using the familiar hook of the gritty crime flick to bring in his Lock, Stock and Snatch audience, proceeds to spend 104 minutes of your valuable time wanking off.<br/><br/>The film, a fantasy set in an alternative universe that is a cross between New Jersey and Blackpool, gets off to a rousing start, then quickly devolves into the world's longest MTV video with gag-inducing philosophical pretensions.<br/><br/>I won't bore you with its professed philosophy, but suffice it to say that it is so obtuse the director had to resort to running interview clips with various PHDs over the closing credits to explain it. No, I'm not kidding.<br/><br/>The movie's one redeeming feature is the stylized violence that erupts all too infrequently, given that it is a blessed relief from the endless explorations of the main character's internal "thoughts." Too bad those scenes aren't in another movie.<br/><br/>Give this one a pass, friend.
I admit that this movie is not perfect in any way, but if you are a fan of Ritchie's movies, you'll love it regardless of all its faults. It contains his stylistic violence, twists, and acting. The music only adds to the movie in this case. <br/><br/>The story is deep, although notdeepsome other users make it out to be. If you don't understand this story, you are probably better off watching Wedding Crashers. It makes you think about your motives, about your choices and its consequences. This movie is designed to make you think, so that by playing against a smarter opponent, you might learn something.<br/><br/>Still prefer Snatch to this movie, but I think it's better than Lock,Stock…
Ritchie has said that it takes several viewings to fully understand what's going on in Revolver, but once will be enough for most to agree to take his word for it.
